NOTE to backcountry folks: If you are going backcountry, please stay clear of the ski area boundaries and lifts from Nov. 1st through May 1st.  Uphill traffic within the ski area boundaries during these times (except by getting a lift ticket and riding the lifts) is banned by our liability insurance company and can be VERY dangerous, especially if we are up doing snow safety work!  Our volunteers are required to enforce this when they are present at the area.

If you are looking up the Valley, anything to the right of Toklat Creek is considered within ski area boundaries.  Anything to the left of the creek is open to the public, although not patrolled and no snow safety work is done there.  The best run is probably up Mt. Gordon-Lyon, the peak between the missle site and the saddle.  There are also some pretty nice gullies between the parking lots and Gordon-Lyon that are great for snowboarders - but can be avalanche prone under certain conditions.  Ski/Board at your own risk!!!

Please respect these simple guidelines and have a great time exploring the rest of the Chugach. Then come get fresh tracks on Saturday mornings when we are open!

Arctic Valley is a great Ski Area with a family-friendly environment.

WHY DO WE CHARGE AN AREA USE FEE?

The Anchorage Ski Club, Inc. is a self-supporting non-profit organization.

WE RECEIVE NO TAX INCOME FROM THE STATE, MUNICIPALITY OR U. S. GOVERNMENT.

In 1997 the military began charging the Anchorage Ski Club for the maintenance of the six-mile long Arctic Valley Road.  We need your help to keep it open to the public.  The daily user fee is $5 per vehicle or for $25 you may purchase an Arctic Valley Annual Use Permit.  Buses and commercial vans pay $2 per passenger.  Your fee goes directly towards the cost of sewage disposal, trailhead construction and maintenance, parking lot and limited road maintenance, and also assists us with establishing and maintaining summer trails and the groomed winter trails utilized by cross-country skiers, back country skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoers.

The Anchorage Ski Club’s presence at Arctic Valley predates the formation of Chugach State Park.  The ASC leases the land from the State of Alaska.  It is not military land.

THE ANCHORAGE SKI CLUB DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY INCOME FROM THE SALE OF CHUGACH STATE PARK DECALS.  STATE PARK AND MILITARY PARKING DECALS ARE NOT VALID AT ARCTIC VALLEY.

Please support this access to Arctic Valley and Chugach State Park by paying your user fee.  The fee station is located at the kiosk in the upper parking lot.

 THANK YOU!!!
